Stop Wasting Time Wallowing About the Inevitability of Life and Spend Time Enjoying It!

[1] "They’re not blind and you’re not the enlightened soul you think you are. Most people just don’t waste their time wallowing about the inevitability of life and spend time enjoying it." - Anon

[2] “The thought of suicide is a great consolation: by means of it one gets through many a dark night.” -Nietzsche

Yes, it is time for me to stop wasting time wallowing about the inevitability, pointlessness and meaningless of life, and instead waste my time enjoying it (time is meant to be wasted, as is money.) Ultimately, the whole Universe is pointless - it is born from a big bang - with no intention, no purpose - and will ultimately die in a big freeze; the whole of human civilization will have been nothing but a miniscule pin-prick in the vast history of the Universe.

And deep down, everyone knows life is pointless, even if you think you're the only one that thinks this way. We do things to give a meaning to our meaningless lives. We work because it makes life less meaningless - it is good to have a purpose in the meaningless of it all. So, similar to the quote above:

"Don't waste time wallowing
about the meaningless of the life,
instead waste your time enjoying it!"

Which leads on to the questions:

  • What do you enjoy in life? / What makes you happy?

And fill your time with things you enjoy and make you happy. Accept that there are things we need to do in this life that we would rather not do, and everything is equally meaningless - the shitty things we hate doing, as well as the things that bring us joy. All things are equal and give balance. There is no separation of work-time and play-time, it is all life-time. The shitty things are to be embraced because they make our pleasure times all the more pleasurable. There is no good without bad, no beauty without ugliness, no pleasure without pain, no joy without suffering!

And yes, we need to work to live in this life, and you must learn to enjoy what you do (only very few people get to do what they enjoy for work.) Whilst at the same take not taking it too seriously. Being sacked/made redundant leads to new opportunities.

Happiness Is A Trap. It Can't Last Forever.*

*So don't expect to be happy all the time, it's not possible.

"You’re dumb. That’s why you’re not scared to be happy. The smarter you are, the more you know. Happiness is a trap. It can’t last forever. Let’s say you meet the love of your life, well, it’s still gonna end. It’s inevitable, whether by the slow pull of a disease, or the shock of loose footing on a hiking trail, whether it be the corrosion of two personalities that reshape each other until they’re incompatible, or maybe the old stranger in a bar who says the things that need to be said, to that person, that night. The point is, happiness always ends. Best case scenario, think about this. Best case is that you die at the same time. Yikes."

Lucretius quote (part remembered): "The thought of not existing after my death fills with me with no more dread that the thought of not existing before my birth."
