I'm in my 40s now, and only now am I finally starting to understand:
Nothing makes you happy but happiness itself!
Happy makes you happy!
That flash new sports car will not make you happy, unless you are happy.
That fancy new toy will not make you happy, unless you are happy.
All these products we are led to believe will make us happy, if only we can save up enough money to buy them, they will not make you happy. And how many times already, have you bought that product that you desperately needed to make you happy, and you had very momentary happiness, but it didn't last, then you were lusting after the next product, and the next, and the next. It is happy that makes you happy. Being happy in yourself. Being happy in the eternal now (as Alan Watts puts it - all there is is the eternal now.)
"Happiness is a choice!"
"There is no path to happiness; happiness is the path." - Buddha
People often lust after super cars, and this following article makes a good read. It is an opinion piece which I found myself agreeing with:
5 Reasons Why Supercar Ownership Has Zero Appeal (carthrottle.com)
- Supercars are no fun
- (Because you'll only enjoy that performance for 0.01 of your driving time)
- You'll always be scared to drive it
- "... you can't just jump in and drive.... You need to plan your route.... Does that really sound like fun to you?"
- I don't think it's cool to own a supercar
- "... create something unique and truly incredible ..."
- Jealousy from others will cost you big bucks
- "... if they don't care bout their own cars, do you think they'll give a moment's thought to how much a panel repair on your car would cost?"
- I don't believe in status symbols
- "People buy supercars and hypercars not to explore these cars’ limits, but to impress people that they’ve never met. And to me, that’s just sad...."
