Dopamine detox is something I've tried, but not been able to maintain for any length of time. Perhaps this is because extreme dopamine detox is not intended for every day. And really you need to start slow to hope for success. But once in a while as a reset, a hardcore 24-hours dopamine detox can be just what the doctor ordered.
The things you want to detox on will be personal to you. I would love to detox completely from the internet and computers, but this is very difficult for me when my work is on the internet (I work from home and I very much work with computer related things.) So a complete internet detox is not possible for me if I still want to be productive and get some work done. Holiday is a different thing, I have a holiday coming up walking in Snowdonia, and then I will have my internet detox!
Things I want to detox from for 24 hours, starting 4am on Saturday to 4am on Sunday:
- No aimlessly twiddling with your fondleslab - put it down (fiddle with you boading balls instead!)
- No porn, masturbation or anal probing (this is going to be hard but "You can do it!")
- No checking emails or parcel tracking!
- No internet shopping!
- No photography (technically, this is included in 2, since my phone is my camera.)
- No forums or discord (or any kind of social media for that matter.)
- No personal blogging (work related blogs are fine.)
- No YouTube.
- No music.
- No re-arranging the house/tidying up.
And try to concentrate and focus on getting work done.
Exercise, walking (and supermarket shopping), eating and drinking; I leave up to you, but my recommendation is:
- Do the park run and have a protein drink.
- Water or black coffee & nuts until 1900, then you can have your porridge.
- Do leave > 120 minutes between water/coffee breaks (time it from pouring the drink)!
