As human beings, as animals, we have a natural instinct to
want to evade stressful situations; often we can’t and must face them.
A good example is a job interview. You feel stressed about
the upcoming interview, you’re worried and fearful, and you can’t wait for it
to be over - this is the wrong approach!
Enjoy stressful situations. Learn from them. Its
stressful situations where we learn about ourselves - we learn how we behave
under stress, we learn what we can do and what we can’t do, and we learn how to
prepare for future similar situations. If you’re in comfort all the time you
don’t learn anything!
Embrace the stressful situations!
Q: Feeling under-prepared?
There’s a limit to
how much preparation you can do for something like an interview. You simply don’t
know what the interviewer is going to ask you. Yes, seek advice; yes, do research.
I’m a great
believer in “Proper Preparation and Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance” -
still there’s no point stressing about under-preparation, or wasting time with
over-preparation (and you might still not be prepared). If it’s impossible to
be prepared, best to sit back and enjoy the spray when the shit hits the fan!
Here’s another thing
- your interviewer/s is/are only human too!
