My HBDI Profile

HBDI = Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument

I was fortunate enough (some time ago now) to take an Elite Consulting skills course. As part of the course, I had my HBDI profile taken, and this is what I got:

       Quadrant|   A |   B |   C |   D |
               +-----+-----+-----+-----+
Preference Code|   1 |   1 |   3 |   1 |
Adjective Pairs|  11 |   7 |   1 |   5 |
 Profile Scores| 119 |  69 |  33 |  69 |
               +-----+-----+-----+-----+

If you ever get an opportunity to have your HBDI profile taken, or simply want to know, I’d recommend it. To show you how useful it is, I’m going to show you what my HBDI profile tells me about myself - seriously, I’d be surprised if anyone’s interested in this, but it’s useful a reference for me. I think the real value of HBDI is helping you to understand others and what makes them tick.

0.9% of the Herrmann database has the HBDI Preference Code 1131.

“Occupations would typically include technical, scientific or financial professions in which interfacing with people is a relatively low priority. Work that is considered most satisfying would include: solving tough problems, analyzing data, making things work, building things, establishing order, bringing about change, and inventing solutions.”

Most comfortable communication approaches may include:
Direct and to the point,
Brief, clear and precise information,
Well-articulated ideas presented in a logical format,
Step-by-step unfolding of the topic,
Providing an overview,
Using visuals.

- but may overlook:
Eye-to-eye contact,
The personal touch and informality,
Concern for how others will react

The most natural problem-solving strategies would include:
Visualization,
Free-flow brainstorming,
Intuition,
Analysis,
Building on ideas of other team members,
Defining the problem.

- but may not consider:
Observing strict procedures,
Time lines.

To make a decision, a person with this profile may ask:
Have I seen all the hidden possibilities?
Do I have all the facts?
How will others be affected?

But may overlook:
The details,
An appropriate sequence.
