The New Resolution - 7 Areas of Discipline

You don't need to wait for a New Year to create New Resolutions, nor a birthday or anything like that. A new day can bring New Resolutions!

Firstly, nothing matters, life is a game, don't take it seriously. Still, finding productive ways of living, helps to make the time we have on earth more fulfilling/rewarding.

Areas of Discipline Concentrate On

1) Mobile phone (and internet) discipline!

Do you spend all your time looking at your phone? Desperately hoping to get your next fix of social media/forum/validation updates? Well, stop it.

Rule: Your phone is a phone. Don't use for internet purposes unless essential whilst away from a computer. A computer/laptop is your tool for accessing/surfing the internet.

2) Food and Drink Discipline

When you are working from home, do you keep popping into the kitchen for something to eat/drink? How many times a day do you do it? Is it really necessary (i.e. if you had a 4 hour drive somewhere, would you really need to snack 3 times on route)?

Rule: 3 meals/eating-times a day + possible snack before going to bed*. In between meals, just drink water!

*It is hard to sleep if you are feeling hungry.

3) Time Discipline

Is you time management a disaster?

Rule: Split you day into 5 units:

  • 04.30 - 07.30 Morning personal/exercise time (~3 hours)
  • 07.30 - 12.30 Morning work time (>= 5 hours)
  • 12.30 - 13.30 Afternoon personal time (~ 1 hour)
  • 13.30 - 18.30 Afternoon work time (>= 5 hours)
  • 18.30 - 21.30 Evening personal time (~3 hours)
  • 21.30 - 04.30 Sleep (~7 hours)

4) Exercise Discipline

Are you keeping fit?

Rule: You should do some fitness training (say Insanity Workout/Running) 6 times a week. Sunday can be the day of rest!

5) Email Discipline

Are you constantly checking your emails? Well, don't, set aside certain times a day to check emails, and then leave them well alone!

Rule: Max 4 dedicated (up to 30 minute) sessions a day checking work emails. Max 3 dedicated (up to 30 minute) sessions a day checking personal emails.

6) Expenses/Expenditure Discipline

Keep you expenditure down! A penny saved is a penny earned!

Rule: A good rule is never have any more debt on credit cards (and no debt on personal loans) than you have in savings to pay off the credit card in full!

7) To Do Discipline

Get stuff done. Don't procastinate.

Rule: Get stuff done!
