The Art of Knowing Where you Stand!

I've not posted on this blog for a good month and a half now. Here's a few collected thoughts from that time.

1) The art of knowing where you stand!

This is an important art. To know where you stand helps you to plan your next step.

2) Take delight in all the ordinary things to be done!

3) The importance of routine.

Routine might sound boring, but really it is very important. Without routine you can be constantly bouncing from thing to thing to thing, and never really get anything done that you need to do. I previously blogged about dopamine detox, and routine is really like that. Do you have no routine and let your mind control what you do by seeking ultimately unsatisfactory dopamine hit after hit after hit? Or do you have a routine and control your mind, and get more satisfying dopamine hits when your routine allows it? It's like sex, if you shag every day, the orgasm isn't as good as if you shag say every three days, then you get a better orgasm.

4) Play the game of life with vitality, intensity, focus and determination.

Intensity is the opposite to apathy/indifference.

5) Play the game of life your good way!

You don't want to play a bad hand!

6) You want to enjoy life in the eternal now and die having lived, not lived having died inside.

You don't want to wait to enjoy life/wait to be happy - like if you're working towards a retirement that may never come (or when it does you are not healthy enough to enjoy the retirement you envisaged.) Don't plan to enjoy life/be happy in the future, the future does not exist. Learn to be happy in the now (the eternal now is all there is.)

Note: The following bits come from Marcus Aurelius

7) No longer either be dissatisfied with thy present lot, or shrink from the future.

8) Die ... cheerfully, truly, and from thy heart thankful to the gods.

9) Do the things external which fall upon thee distract thee? Give thyself time to learn something new and good, and cease to be whirled around.

Note: These are miscellaneous stuff.

10) Governments are a bad role model financially.

11) The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.

12) The whole world is a phenomenon of consciousness.

13) Music like survival doesn't have to happen.

14) The conflict of living and loathing - this is a disease of the mind.

15) One is nothing but a flow of change.
