I was watching a motivational video on YouTube (yes, sometimes
YouTube can be educational - it is not all bad) in which Elon Musk says, “Work Every Waking Hour”.

And this video made me think a lot about my own love/hate
relationship with work.
I think everyone dreams of having loads of money, loads
of freedom, a nice house (or few), nice cars, etcetera, etcetera. The reality
for 99.9...% of us, is that we must work. We cannot just down tools and put our
feet up, otherwise we will starve. So, it is important to have the right
relationship with work. Work
is not the enemy!
“Work Every Waking Hour?” Yes, absolutely. Work cleverly
though. Work for yourself, your own benefit, work to learn and acquire more knowledge,
more skills, better skills.
This is important. (Unless you are a slave) You’re not a
slave, you could hand in your notice at any time, you do not need to work for
you current employer, you could work for someone else, or - even better - yourself.
So, you are working for your employer of your own free will. Work every waking
hour, and work for
yourself. Whilst you are in employee time (i.e. the 9 to 5) you are
acquiring more knowledge and improved skills regarding your profession. Outside
employee time, still work every waking hour, bettering yourself (be it related
to your employment, or towards something else.)
Work 100% of the time and love it!
