What do you do to live? What makes life worth living? What do you live for?

Continuing from the previous post...

I've made a permanent change to the title of this blog. It is (as of 07.12.2025):

Life is Equally Meaningless for Everybody in the Universe! There is NO Meaning to Life!

We are all equally meaningless in the eyes of the Universe - poor and rich, lazy and dilligent, stupid and clever, black and white ... but we are the Universe! Life simply is. Nothing really matters - whatever you do or don't do, big or small, is meaningless. The best we can do is find things to live for, or find things that make life worth living (often by trying new things). Find things you love. Do things with love. What do you live for? What makes life worth living? What do you do to live?

Now I try to answer the questions the blog title description poses but with the order of questions reversed. And interspersed with other questions.

  • Q: What do you do to live?
    • Currently I work as an IT consultant (this pays me a monthly salary that pays for all my bills and stuff)
    • Q: What are you thoughts on that?
      • It's okay. I feel very lucky to work for the company I work for and be paid the salary I am paid. But I have reservations on the work. The push is more and more to being like a resident, but seems like I am being pushed into a resident role for a product that doesn't excite me so much (I don't hate it, I just don't love it).
      • I want to be a proper consultant, meeting different customers, going to different customer sites (travelling), working on core products that I love and find interesting, not a monitoring/reporting tool which often feels like secretarial work ("secretary - create me a report/dashboard of this ...").
      • I like doing advanced engineering work, doing procedures that put production systems at risk, and doing them non-disruptively without issue (feels like being a bomb disposal expert.) Interesting coding/automation work would be good too (preferably not for a bank where everything gets bogged down in bureaucracy and procedure.)
    • Q: What can you do about your situation? / What can you do to improve your situation?
      • Need to have an honest and frank discussion with my manager. I need to do my best in my current role and be mindful for openings elsewhere. I don't want to leave but if I see something interesting I should make a move. Perhaps an advanced engineering field engineer type role. Or an infrastructure engineer resident/architect role working on products I love.
    • Q: Do you want to do your job forever? And if not, how do you envisage the future?
      • No. Certainly not the way my job is currently, if it changed, maybe.
      • Thinking about the future is difficult for me, I don't know how much longer I want to go on. I certainly don't want to end up like my parents. The future question will need to be revisited.
    • Q: What are you thoughts on being sacked / made redundant?
      • Sometimes it can be a good thing. Variety is good. Expanding your horizons.
    • Q: What if you were sacked tomorrow?
      • Maybe I would sell up, liquidize my assets, blow it all away or give it away, then kill myself (hopefully leaving no tax for the grubby stealing hands of the tax man). Or do voluntary work, teach English in a foreign country, something part time. No idea, needs for it to happen for me to solidify my plans.
  • Q: What makes life worth living?
    • Google AI Overview:
    • Things worth living for include deep connections (love, family, friends), personal growth (learning, overcoming challenges, finding purpose), simple joys (nature, music, good food), helping others (kindness, compassion, service), and self-fulfillment (passions, creativity, health), all contributing to a meaningful and joyful existence.

  • Q: What do you live for?
    • Alas, I don't have some great ambition or goal. I will just say, I live for those things that make life worth living.
