I'm not religious, but I like this line from the New Testament:
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward in heaven will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men." ( Luke 6:35)
If you can keep in your heart to love people, even if they hate you (and think you're sh*t at what you do), then that is very good philosophical armor for you. Of course, that doesn't mean you have to be a p*ssy - you must still defend yourself and those you care for!
