After my last post, yes, I downloaded Civilization 3 yet again and continued playing it addictively.
I know Civ 3 is a waste of time, nothing good ever comes from playing it (one thing to consider, it is a relatively cheap pastime - cost me a few quid many years ago and still played now.) I'll often start a game (the start is always the most exciting bit, discovering a new world, new rivals) play to the point where I know the game is won and I simply need to keep doing boring, slow, monotonous turn after turn and I'll win. The number of winning games I've quit could be in the hundreds. All that time wasted getting to a winning position, then given up on, looking for something more exciting, but it's always the same ending "I can see I've won, give it a few hundred more turns of monotony and we'll get a lame victory screen! I'm bored, thet's go back to that start again!"
So yes, nothing good every came from playing Civilization 3. It doesn't help you in your career, in your business, in your job hunting, doesn't help you at all, except for consuming time relatively cheaply, but at the cost of your own development. Rather than wasting endless hours on Civilization 3, endless won games you give up on, you should be using that time to improve your situation and improve the situation of others.
This leads me onto my next post.
